Brian Scott Lyda was born in New York, New York. He received his Eagle Scout from Middle Tennessee Council in 1986. A graduate of Tullahoma High School (1989), he studied biomedical engineering at Boston University’s School of Engineering (B.S. 1994). He obtained a Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School at Union University, and a technical MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in May 2000, as part of a joint-degree program, receiving concentrations in business law and estate planning, both with honors, and received the Herbert E. Cohen Prize by demonstrating the greatest potential for excellence in corporate law and taxation. Mr. Lyda served as the executive editor of the Albany Law Journal of Science & Technology (1999), publishing an article entitled “The Y2K Problem and Director Liability: Does the Business Judgment Rule Apply?” He joined the Albany Law Men’s Rugby team (1998 to 2000), and the Fort Lauderdale Knights (2003). At RPI’s Lally School of Business, Mr. Lyda served as a Senator for Corporate Relations for the MBA Student Association. Mr. Lyda is a Master Mason and a member of Masters Lodge No. 5, Albany, New York. He has two children, Elly and Brian.

As an attorney, he assists businesses and individuals relating to succession planning for closely-held and family-owned businesses, advising clients on tax strategies, exit strategies, cash needs in the event of death, retirement or disability, asset protection and buy-sell agreements. He assists closely-held and family-owned businesses “hand off the baton” from one generation to the next, and counsels clients to avoid “pitfalls” when grooming prospective successors, while amicably resolving inter-family disputes.

With commercial litigation experience in state and federal courts, Mr. Lyda represents individuals and businesses in contract disputes, debt collection, bankruptcy, negligence and liability claims. He explains efficient and effective legal options and strategies to allow his clients to make informed decisions.

The Lyda Law Firm, PLLC counsels individuals in estate planning and related trust matters, including probate and administration proceedings in New York State courts, and represents individuals, businesses, developers and lenders in connection with the development, finance, sale, purchase and leasing of residential and commercial real estate.
